Destination Wedding in the Heart of Val d’Orcia
Borgo di Castelvecchio, just outside the town of Pienza, provided the setting for this black-tie destination wedding.
The ceremony took place in the gardens of the estate overlooking one of the most beautiful panoramas of the Val d’Orcia landscape. The history of Borgo di Castelvecchio stretches back centuries.
The first documented record of the estate dates to 1279, although its origins likely reach even further back to the 11th century. Its historic architecture and elevated position above the Orcia Valley make it a remarkable setting for couples seeking an understated yet elegant wedding in Tuscany.
The Girls
The bride and her bridesmaids chose to prepare for the wedding at Casale Castelvecchio, an elegantly restored stone farmhouse located a few minutes from the main borgo. The house offered both privacy and beautiful views over the Orcia Valley, creating a calm and relaxed atmosphere for the morning preparations.
The Boys
The groom and his groomsmen got ready at La Canonica, one of the apartments within the main Borgo di Castelvecchio estate buildings.
The Symbolic Ceremony
Overlooking the Orcia Valley
The symbolic ceremony took place in the garden overlooking the Orcia Valley. The décor remained intentionally minimal — wooden chairs with white cushions and floral arrangements placed at the end of the aisle — allowing the landscape to remain the true focal point.
An old circular stone structure covered in ivy served as the altar, creating a natural and atmospheric setting for the ceremony.
Aperitif Around the Pool
After the ceremony, guests moved to the pool area for the aperitif.
Tuscan appetisers were served alongside champagne and Aperol Spritz while guests enjoyed the sweeping views of the Val d’Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage landscape.
A Polaroid camera and guest book were placed on a small table, inviting guests to leave messages and photographs for the couple.
The Bridal Party
During the afternoon there was time set aside for photographs with the bridal party — a moment to celebrate with close friends before the evening celebrations began.
Dinner in the Courtyard
One of the most distinctive spaces at Borgo di Castelvecchio is the historic courtyard. After sunset it becomes an ideal setting for an outdoor dinner, preserving the authentic atmosphere of a Tuscan village while feeling intimate and secluded.
The After Party
The evening continued indoors where the couple’s first dance and the party took place.
An open bar served cocktails throughout the night, including the couple’s signature drinks — Hugo Spritz and Moscow Mule — as guests celebrated late into the evening.
